O-Flexx Technologies was founded in January 2006 to respond to the obvious need for energy harvesting in the area of waste heat. Founding investor alongside the former management Ralph Teunissen and Michael Bisges was the US-French fund Partech International.

In May 2007, they were joined in a second round of funding by Emerald Technology Ventures (headquartered in Zurich), the Danish fund BankInvest Technology (headquartered in Copenhagen) and the venture capital arm of the French Schneider Electric Group, Schneider Electric Ventures (headquartered in Paris). The group of investors was again expanded by adding the Italian fund ATMOS (headquartered in Milan) and the private investor SAM GmbH (headquartered in Salzburg) in a third round of funding in June 2009. Finally, the Dutch fund SET Venture Partners (headquartered in Amsterdam) joined in April 2010.

On October 19, 2010, German O-Flexx Technologies announced that it made the list of the 100 most promising cleantech enterprises of 2010. The prestigious 2010 Global Cleantech 100 is published by the Cleantech Group in cooperation with the British daily paper The Guardian.
